Toys For Tots Continues with a few Tweaks

Despite the Pandemic, the Toys for Tots in Pine County will be happening this year with some differences.

According to Coordinator Julie Samuelson, the changes pertain to how toys can be collected. Clients will receive a number and will stay in their cars. When their number is called, they will then pick up a pre-packaged bag of toys.

"It's important that when they fill out their applications, they put some ideas for us. Otherwise, we'll just pray and go with what our heart is saying this kid needs," said Samuelson.

Donation boxes will be out at local businesses through Tuesday, December 15. Applications for Pine County residents are at the Health and Human Services offices in Pine City and Sandstone. Residents in northern Chisago County and Carlton County can apply through Lakes and Pines. Applications are due by Friday, December 11.

Samuelson also said that they won't be taking volunteers this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

If the numbers stay the same from previous years, they expect to help over 700 children.

The distribution event will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City on December 19.
