Vandalism to Hinckley-Finlayson High School Bathrooms Prompts Procedure Change

The Hinckley-Finlayson School District has changed its bathroom procedure after vandals have targeted the high school.

The announcement came Tuesday, where high school students now have to turn in their cellphones if they need to leave class to use the bathroom. If they do not turn in their phone, they will not be allowed to use the bathrooms.

School administration believes the recent vandalism is tied to the "Devious Lick" trend. Across the country, students have filmed themselves stealing or damaging school property and posting it to the social media platform TikTok.

Hinckley Finlayson High School Principal Brian Masterson told WCMP that he has not heard or seen any students explicitly refer to the trend by name, but he does believe it is related to the recent uptick in vandalism.

Masterson stated that students kicked a bathroom stall door off its hinges, damaged a towel dispenser, and took a soap dispenser down.

Parents with questions regarding the policy change are asked to contact the high school office.
