Several Area Girls Basketball Teams Earn Top Seeds in Section Playoffs

Girls Basketball

The Girls Basketball playoff seedings came out today and several area teams sit in good positions to make a run at the State Tournament.

The Rush City Tigers finished another successful regular season going undefeated in conference play and suffering just one loss in the regular season. The Tigers hold the #2 seed in Section 6AA and will look to improve off of last season where they were knocked out in the section championship. The Tigers will have to get through St. Cloud Cathedral. The Crusaders gave the Tigers their only loss of the regular season. The Tigers first round opponent is Mora. That game will be Thursday at 7:00.

The other team to watch in Section 6AA is the Pine City Dragons. The Dragons finished with a record of 21-5 on the season and earned the #3 seed in the section. The Dragons struggled against Section opponents this year only going 3-4 in the section and losing to St. Cloud Cathedral, Rush City twice, Foley, and Sauk Rapids-Rice. The Dragons will have to figure things out quickly, because they take on Foley in the first round. The Falcons got the best of Pine City 50-45 in their lone meeting this year. The Dragons will host the Falcons on Thursday night at 7:00p.

The South bracket of Section 5A boasts two area teams in good position to make a run at the State Tournament. The East Central Eagles finished the regular season at 19-6 and are the #2 seed in the section. They await the winner of Ogilvie and Hinckley-Finlayson. The Eagles finished a section record of 12-1 only losing to #3 seed Braham. They did not face #1 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa this season.

The Bombers are the #3 seed in Section 5A with an overall record of 14-12. The Bombers await their first round game. Braham will play the winner between Isle and St. John's Prep.
