Pine City Council member Pettie submits letter of resignation

Pine City Council member Gina Pettie submitted a letter of resignation from her council seat on Wednesday.

"We received a notification today that council member Pettie is resigning from her position on the city council of Pine City, effective today," said Mayor Kent Bombard at Wednesday's meeting.

Because the letter was received after the meeting's agenda was already posted, a resolution was not prepared for the council to officially acknowledge Pettie's resignation and recognize the vacancy.

Council member Dan Swanson made a motion to "address the vacancy by resignation at our next council meeting by a qualified resolution."

Council member Kyle Palmer seconded the motion, which passed 3-0. Council member Dave Hill was absent from Wednesday's meeting.

The council's next meeting is scheduled for March 4.

"I would like to take a moment to thank council member Pettie for her years of service to the city of Pine City, and I regret her resignation," Bombard said.

Pettie's term expires at the end of 2026, which means the council would be able to fill the vacancy by appointment.

Pettie, who was also the council's most recent acting mayor, first joined the council in 2017.
