Last weekend (April 6-8) helicopter pilots going to and from the Sandstone Hospital reported that lasers were being pointed at them.
Pine County Sheriff Jeff Nelson said that the laser attacks are being taken very seriously.
“We do have a general idea of where it was coming from but weren't able to pinpoint it. People can get the word out there that it's not a joke. Obviously the only reason they (pilots) are coming to and from that hospital is because it's an emergency situation."
Each year in the U.S. thousands of pilots experience lasers pointed in their cockpits, and can lead to temporary blindness and even burn their corneas. On average each day in the United States, 11 cases of laser attacks are documented.
