Football Program Growing in Rush City

The Rush City Tigers football team is looking to bounce back after a disappointing 3-6 season last year that saw them exit the playoffs with a first round loss to St. Agnes. The Tigers play a tough schedule with opponents like Pine City, Deer River, and Braham. Head Coach Joe Lattimore says the team is returning a good strong core and has a lot of new players. The roster is showing the most players they have had in a long time.

Here is our 2018 Tiger Football preview with Head Coach Joe Lattimore:

What are you most excited for this year?

We have a core of returning players that saw a lot of playing time last year. We are

expecting them to grow from their learning experiences from the previous years. We also

have a lot of new faces that will bring depth to our football team.

How is the roster shaping up? Do you have a lot of new players? Are you returning

a lot of players? Younger? Older? Etc.

We have a good blend of young and old players. We have a lot that are coming out again

for football this fall. Our numbers are a lot stronger this year. This is the most we have

had on our roster is four years.

Offense returners: 6 Defense returners: 8

Who are a couple athletes that will stand out?

Brandon Guptill, Cody McFee, Carl Sybrant. All three are senior captains that have been

playing varsity since their freshmen years. They will provide experience and leadership

to our football team.

What are your goals?

Our goal every year is to get better everyday. We feel that if we can do that, we will be a

tough team to play when the playoffs arrive. We also set a goal of competing for a

sub-district championship, and a section championship.

Favorite upcoming games, matches, or meets?

Pine City, we enjoy the challenge of playing a really sound 3A school.

Hinckley-Finlayson, this will be the first year we are playing for “The Big Cat Trophy”, a

traveling trophy that the winning team will hold until the next season.

Braham, always a fun game the kids get fired up for!

Anything else you want people to know about your team?

On October 12th we will be having our tackle cancer game against Hinckley-Finlayson.

The proceeds from this event will go to the Randy Shaver Tackle Cancer Foundation.
