North Branch Football Prepares for Season Opener

The North Branch Vikings Football team is looking to improve off an impressive 7-3 season last year that saw them falling to Cloquet in the Section 7AAAA Championship game. The team opens up play this Friday night at home against Princeton.

The 2018 Viking Football Preview with Justin Voss:

Who are a couple athletes that will stand out?

  • Thomas Wurdemann-Senior captain, two way starter, aggressive MLB and a strong running back

  • Brandon Swanson--Senior, two way starter, physical play on OL and DL

  • Issac Maki--Senior, Two way starter--Fast and aggressive Offensive and Defensive lineman

  • Dawson Drost--Senior Captain, two way starter, Big, physical and athletics offensive and defensive lineman

  • Nick Hunziker--Senior, Two way starter, quick and explosive RB and fast OLB

  • Conner Hartmann--Senior, two way starter, strong athletic ability at RB and CB

What are your goals?

  • Our team as a whole will need to put the importance on taking care of the little things in all aspect of our play! As we usher in a new offensive philosophy our offensive line play will hold the key to our success, and we will relay heavily on them to provide opportunities for out backs to make plays. Defensively we will look to be simplistic yet aggressive in hopes to allow our defense to play fast. We will look for consistency with our special teams and use this aspect of the game to establish strong field position.

Favorite upcoming games, matches, or meets?

  • Our district continues to be competitive and we’re looking forward to another year working to establishing ourselves as a consistently, competitive football program that plays football, and does things the right way.

Anything else you want people to know about your team?

  • This past year our community voted through a school bond that will bring about much positive change to our School district. With the bond passing, it has brought about changes that affect the off-season as well as the start of the season (no use of the High School, change in weight room location, alternate practice field, not being able to play first 2 home games on our home field, etc). However, our guys have done an excellent job of not letting those factors alter their attitude and effort. They’ve been resilient and focused on continuing the success that last year brought!
