Hinckley-Finlayson 77
Braham 55
The Hinckley-Finlayson boys basketball team advanced to the Sub-Section Finals with a 77-55 win over Braham on Tuesday night. Things started off slow for the Jaguars who trailed the Bombers at the half 32-29. But a late second half push combining turnovers and fast break points gave the Jaguars a second half lead and helped them finish off the victory.
Hinckley-Finlayson improved to 21-7 on the year and will match up against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the Sub-Section Finals. "BBE", who are also the Jaguars, defeated Upsala 65-51 in their semifinal game. Hinckley-Finlayson defeated BBE last year in the playoffs 72-54.
The Jaguars vs Jaguars game will take place Wednesday night at Foley High School at 7:00 pm.
Spectrum 76
Pine City 63
The Dragons season ended a little earlier than expected this year as Pine City fell to Spectrum Tuesday night at St. John's University. Pine City started the game a little slow as they shot just 30% in the first half, but still managed to keep the game tied at 32 heading into the locker room.
Everyone in the building felt like Pine City was eventually going to take over the game as they have in the past but couldn't cut into Spectrum's lead. The Sting held around a seven point lead for most of the second half. The Dragons were even colder from long range in the second half shooting just 14.3% from deep in the final 18 minutes of the game. Spectrum hit their free throws at the end to close up the win.
Seth Logan led the Dragons with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Nick Hansmann added 10 and Konnor Jusczak scored 8.
Pine City will celebrate a 24-4 season that gave them their first outright conference championship in over 30 years. They will also say goodbye to team leaders Nick Hansmann, Jake Adams, and Quentin Miklya who graduated after great careers in the Dragon uniforms.
