High School put on Lockdown following Manhunt in Pine City

A search of a man who fled law enforcement early Thursday morning led to the lockdown of the Pine City High School.

According to the press release put out by the school district, the suspect had a warrant out for his arrest and fled law enforcement during a routine traffic stop. The suspect hid from deputies in the woods behind the Alternative Learning Center which caused the area to be cordoned off.

Pine City Superintendent Dr. Curt Tryggestad told WCMP that while under the soft lockdown things remained business as usual inside the school. Staff monitored the outside doors higher than usual while classes continued inside. The Pine City High School was in lockdown for a couple of hours before being lifted around noon.

The Pine County Sheriff's Office declared the area secure after search efforts near Golf Avenue and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church came up empty.

The suspect is described as a male who was wearing an orange and black sweatshirt.

Law Enforcement believes the suspect is not armed, and there is no current threat to the public.
