Braham softball hosted Rush City on Tuesday.
The Bombers were looking for the season sweep over the Tigers, while Rush City was looking for a big win on the road. A big conference matchup for both teams, a win for the Bombers meant they were one step away from becoming conference champs, a win for the Tigers would tie them at the top with the Bombers.
With alot on the line, we had the two best pitchers in the conference go at it, in Braham's Alex Rysdam, and Rush City's Kendal Pillar. And this game was definitely a pitchers dual.
Neither team was able to get a hit , let alone a base runner on. Each side was able to get their first hit in the 3rd inning. But once again the 4th inning was dominated by both the pitching and defense of both teams. But the 5th inning changed the look and the feel, as the lead off batter for Rush City, Cailyn Glenna, came to the plate. After a couple pitches, she was able to drill the ball towards left center, but it continued to carry and soon it was over the fence for a home run. This would give the Tigers the 1st run of the game and the lead 1-0. But how would both sides respond, would we see the Tigers pile on the hits or could Braham come back and stay strong. Well the Bombers would be able to move and finish the inning without another hit. Now Braham was hoping to get something started themselves. While not able to in the 5th, the home half of the 6th looked promising. After the leadoff batter struck out, the 2nd batter reached on a base hit, she also stole 2nd and now with nobody out, there was the tying run in scoring position. But the Tiger defense was able to grab the final two outs needed to end the inning. In the top of the 7th, the Tigers looked to add some insurance runs, and after the leadoff batter reached, two batters later they would do just that. Scoring one run on an RBI single to extend their lead now 2-0. They weren't able to add any more runs and it all came down the bottom of the 7th. Braham is now stranger to scoring two runs in an inning, in fact throughout the season they average almost 2 runs an inning. All they needed was one hit to change how the 7th would play, but the Tiger defense was too good and finished with a one, two three inning to claim the win.
The Tigers and Bombers were now tied at the top of the conference at 11-2 and both still had a chance at the conference crown the next day.
