Dragons Stay Undefeated in Conference Play

Both the boys and girls Dragon basketball teams played against Rush City last night.

The girls hosted the Tigers, and both teams got out to a fast start in the 1st half. They were going point for point with each other for the first five or so minutes of the 1st half. But Pine City would find some rhythm on offense after calling a timeout. Their offense was driven by their strong defensive play. They would create more turnovers and score off of them. With the strong play of their defense and the offense making the most of their opportunities the Dragons went into halftime with a 31-18 lead. The Dragons would start off the 2nd half on an incredible scoring run, and because of that they were able to build an almost insurmountable lead. The Dragons were able to get their younger players some valuable time on the court. At one point there was a running clock, but Rush City worked hard and fought back to nullify the running clock. The Tigers run would fall short though as the Dragons came out on top 60-40. The Dragons would accumulate 12 steals throughout the course of the game. Pine City is now 7-3 on the season and will face Duluth Marshall tomorrow at Duluth East High School at 11:30am. Rush City falls to 2-7 and will travel and face Maple Lake on Saturday at Noon.

The Dragon boys traveled down to RCHS last night. It was a bit of a slower 1st half for both teams, as the halftime score was 24-23 in favor of Pine City. A crazy stat from the 1st half was that, the Dragons made zero yes zero three point shots. But that didn't make the Dragons from shying away from putting up that shot in the 2nd half, as both teams found the basket a bunch more than in the 1st. Pine City wouldn't let the Tigers keep it close as they started to pull away. The Dragons came away with the victory 68-52. They now sit at 5-4 on the season and are also undefeated in conference play. They will be at Duluth East tomorrow as well to play Hermantown, their 4th AAA opponent of the season, at 10am. Rush City falls to 5-2 on the season and will travel with the lady Tigers to Maple Lake for their game at 1:30pm.
