Pine City Alzheimer's Group to Hold Free Coffee Chats for Caregivers

A Pine City group designed to aid and educate caregivers who support people with Alzheimer's will host a series of coffee chats starting this week.

PC Act on Alzheimer’s has partnered with community experts from Pine County Public Health, AARP, and the Central Minnesota Council on Aging to provide insight and help the community.

The first coffee chat will be held on February 8. It features a conversation with Kelly Graber of Lakes and Pines, where she will discuss the importance of finding a balance as a caregiver.

"We have to recognize how many hours caregivers put it, and how it is a 24-hour-a-day job," said Mary Kay Sloan of the PC ACT on Alzheimer's group. "We need caregivers to take time for themselves, so she (Kelly Graber) gives pointers on how to help."

These chats will cover a variety of topics. They include discussions on nutrition, Alzheimer-friendly home improvements, and mental health support.

These chats will be held on the second Wednesday of each month from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at the Pine City Library.

It is free to attend, but they ask people to pre-register by calling 651-498-9631.
