Pine City Fires City Administrator

The City of Pine City announced earlier this week that they had terminated Mattew Van Steenwyk, its City Administrator.

Van Steenwyk began with the City in December of 2016 as the Treasurer. He was hired as the administrator in April of 2019 after Ken Cammilleri, then-city administrator, left the position.

According to a press release from City Hall, the council held a series of special meetings on January 8, 13, and 14 regarding Van Steenwyk's performance. It was during the final meeting that they approved a motion to terminate him effective Friday, January 15, 2021.

Community Development Director Lezlie Sauter has been assigned on an interim basis to perform the City Administrator functions for the city.

The city offered no further comment on the termination.

The next Pine City City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 28.
