The City of Pine City is one of four winners of the City of Excellence award by the League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) for the Hilltop Recreation Area Improvement Project.
The city was named during the annual LMC Conference held in Duluth at the end of June.
City projects or programs are chosen for the award based on meeting one or more of the following criteria:
Improved the quality of a city service;
Developed an effective or innovative way to solve an old or common problem;
Modified a program from another community or organization to fit the city’s need;
Found a way to save the city money while achieving the same or better results; or
Creatively involved city staff in decision-making
According to LMC, the Hilltop Recreation Area Project was selected because of its collaborative nature between volunteer groups, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and City Government.
Currently, the project is in the process of completing its final phases to add a concreted multi-use space for year-round activities.
