Recap of Pine City's Week 4 Trap Shoot

Here's the update from Coach Johnson.

Competitive Shooting Week 4 Results

Record warmth and sunny weather greeted the Pine City High School Trap Team on Mothers’

Day. Shooting trap this day was kind of like a “kids make breakfast for mom” buffet; it was hard to predict just what you were going to get. Targets floated and dove and danced in all

directions in the gusty 30 mile an hour wind. In spite of the challenges, shooters again

performed well.

Week 4 of competitive shooting found senior Ryan Carl once again near the top the leader board. He has been remarkably consistent all season, scoring two 44s and two 43’s. He tied with another consistently strong shooter in fellow senior Talen Reitan with 43’s. Austin Gariepy, a regular in the top ten list, shot a 42. Jaeggar Anderson, who has been averaging 33, shot a remarkable season best 41. Fifth place went to Evan Benolken with 40 hits, followed by Levi Kraft and Colten Mohr with 39. All three of them have been in the top ten all season. Owen Severson improved an eye opening 10 points to garner 8 th place with a 38, also a season high. Blake Berg, one of the most improved shooters this year, tied for 9th with Tristan Frith at 37. Four Dragons shot 36 in the gusty winds: Milo Babolik, Nolan Johnson, Deven Nyberg, and Maxwell Stuckey. Coach Pete Leibel, who has been volunteering as a coach and executive board member since the team was formed 9 years ago, told the athletes, “Have fun and get better.” A couple of seventh grade girls, Molly Dehkes and Claire Kordiak, took his advice to heart. They were all smiles after their round--Molly improving 5 hits from the previous week, and Claire doubling her score. Another remarkable performance came from 9th grader Tyler Lemire-Starr, who sho a 42 during Thursday’s makeup round. The team has one more week of competitive shooting before they prepare for the state tournament.
