Stolen Fishing Equipment
Two truckloads of stolen fishing equipment was recovered over the 4th of July after an investigation.
A variety of thefts were reported to the Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office from Father Hennepin State Park.
Local city and county departments worked together to locate a pickup truck which contained 103 fishing rods and reels, 56 tackle boxes, and five fish finders.
A man and a woman from Monticello are being charged with two felony counts of receiving stolen property.
Missing Man on St. Croix River
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office is currently in search of a man that went missing last Wednesday near Taylors Falls.
Deputies found a kayak with a tackle box and car keys inside, who are believed to be owned by 49-year-old Vue Her.
Law enforcement has searched by water and by air but haven’t been able to locate him yet, and are asking the public to help locate him.
Braham Man Pleads Guilty in Shooting
A Braham man accused of shooting a Siren man in the leg in 2016 has plead guilty to 1st degree recklessly endangering safety, a felony.
Jack Garcia, 43, of Braham, broke into a home in 2016 and shot the homeowner in the leg before stealing a backpack and leaving the scene.
Garcia has been held in the Burnett County Jail since the incident
Garcia entered a plea to serve a reduced sentence, which was approved, and if approved at sentencing, he’d serve five years in jail and five on probation.
Marine’s Remains Finally Brought Home
A local marine who was killed in action in World War II is finally coming home.
Sgt. James Hubert of Duluth was killed in action in Tarawa in the Pacific in the second world war, and was buried in a mass grave.
After a contractor began to build a parking lot in June 2015, the lost grave was discovered, a DNA test done, and confirmation that it was Hubert.
Sgt. James Hubert received an escort from Snelling National Cemetery up interstate 35 through Pine County before being laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Duluth.
Saturday was officially named James Joseph Hubert Day in Minnesota.
