A Hinckley man has been charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon after allegedly hitting his nephew with his SUV on March 28.
According to the criminal complaint, the Pine County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a person being hit by a vehicle just before 2 a.m. at a Government Road address in Hinckley.
The reporting party said Kenneth Vork ran over Levi Kohler with his car before leaving the property. Kohler was transported to the hospital when authorities arrived at the scene.
Kohler told authorities that he and a few others were having a fire at the address when Vork, who he reported was his uncle, drove up to him and hit him with the SUV when he was standing in the driveway.
He also reported that Vork drove the SUV forward and ran into him again. A witness at the scene corroborated the claim.
The reporting party reported that Vork, who lived just north of the address where the incident occurred, was upset that the group was having a fire.
Vork’s vehicle was stopped on Government Road with visible damage, including a print that appeared consistent with a body rolling across the hood.
He told authorities that he went to Kohler’s residence after hearing neighbors rev a truck engine and fire several gunshots, and saw Kohler pointing a shotgun in the air at the scene.
He said Kohler never pointed the firearm at him.
Vork admitted to having “slid” into Kohler and “bumped him back a little bit,” before backing into another vehicle after Kohler allegedly attempted to grab him.
He made his first appearance in Pine County Court on Monday.
