Juvenile pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle in Burnett County parking lot

A 10-year-old female who was struck by a vehicle in the Burnett Dairy Cooperative parking lot in Wood River Township on Sunday was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

According to a news release from the Burnett County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received a report of a juvenile pedestrian being hit by a vehicle at 11:48 a.m.

The victim, whose identity has not been released at this time, was flown from the scene to a Twin Cities hospital.

The vehicle's driver was identified as 85-year-old Grantsburg man Philip Schmidt.

The release states that the incident remains under investigation, but appears to be accidental.

The sheriff's office thanks North Ambulance, North Air Care, the Grantsburg police and fire departments, and Burnett Dairy personnel for their assistance.
