United States Senator Amy Klobuchar visited Pine Technical and Community College on Friday afternoon.
Klobuchar toured the campus with Pine Tech President Joe Mulford, and discussed her efforts to support workforce development and career pathway programs.
The senator said Pine Tech is an important institution in East Central Minnesota.
"I am so impressed by what's going on at Pine Tech," Klobuchar told WCMP. "You've got students from the local area, but you've got students from all over the country because of the fine education. And we need more students to get these kinds of degrees, because these are the jobs that are open. They're good paying jobs. And I'm excited that we're expanding here, and the day care is expanding, and there's going to be dorm rooms for some of the students. There couldn't be a better project. I can't wait to see it open."
Pine Tech is in the midst of a two-year expansion project after receiving $21.4 million in legislative bonding funds.
The expansion includes a 25,000 square-foot addition. A new gunsmithing technology lab and south and east entrances to the college are anticipated to be completed by fall of 2025.
