Mora man arrested after allegedly breaking into, living in Pine City warming house

A 35-year-old Mora man has been charged with first-degree property damage and two counts of second-degree burglary, among other charges, for allegedly breaking into and living in the Pine City warming house.

According to the criminal complaint, a Pine County Sheriff's Office deputy was dispatched to a burglary at a city-owned building on 8th Street on June 23.

A city employee had discovered that someone had broken into the warming house and appeared to have been living there for approximately two or three weeks.

The maintenance closet had been turned into a shower room, and law enforcement located personal items in one of the locker rooms that did not belong there.

The complaint states that storage room doors had also been damaged and could no longer be adequately secured.

Neighborhood children told the deputy they saw a person at the warming house, and believed he was at a Hilltop Cottages residence.

A witness at the address identified the man as Colton Kizzire, and reported that he "just went out the window" after showing up just before the deputy arrived.

Deputies discovered the door to the warming house was propped open on June 24, and found several doors unlocked.

They were able to identify a campsite where Kizzire had been known to be staying in the area, and located industrial floormats from the warming house there.

Surveillance cameras in the warming house had been covered up, but the city employee was able to provide footage of Kizzire attempting to enter a locker room on the night of June 23.

Authorities arrested Kizzire on June 27. He was found with a lanyard with a key and fob labeled Hilltop Rec Building.

Kizzire has also been charged with third-degree burglary, and misdemeanor counts of trespassing and theft.

He'll make his next court appearance on Aug. 12.
