Pine City Mayor Carl Pederson has resigned from his position, effective Feb. 29.
Pederson announced his resignation in a letter on Thursday, saying in part that "at this juncture, it is time for me to focus on continuing my recovery and caring for my family and vice versa."
Pederson has served as mayor of Pine City for over nine years.
In the letter, Pederson said his decision to resign was "difficult but necessary," citing "much reflection and significant contemplation."
According to the Pine City website, council member Gina Pettie is serving in the capacity of acting mayor.
