Rush City's Niessen signs letter of intent with UW-Superior

Rush City High School senior Braden Niessen will be trading the blue and gold of the Tigers for the gold and black of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets. The track standout has signed a letter of intent with UW-Superior, and said he is looking forward to his next steps in life, school and sports.

"My major is education, and they have an amazing education program," Niessen said. "So I figured, why not go there with an amazing education program and the ability to run track?"

Niessen said that his parents and coaches have had a huge influence on his success, and made a special note of Rush City Track Head Coach Michael Vaughan's support during a tough time last year.

"Mr. Vaughan coached me through so many setbacks," Niessen said. "I broke my leg and then I had pneumonia, and I just thank everybody for allowing me to power through my adversities."

Vaughan said he was proud of Niessen for his work ethic as well as his accomplishments.

"From ninth grade on he was ready to do anything," Vaughan said. "He worked so hard, and I knew he was capable of great things. I'm really excited for this track season, and for his career after this season."

Rush City Schools Activity Director Lee Rood wished Niessen well as he prepares for college.

"We're really proud of you, and what you've done here at Rush City," Rood said. "And we wish you the best as you go on to become a Yellowjacket."
