UPDATE: BCA Investigating Two Use of Force Incidents in Pine County

The MN BCA is currently investigating two use-of-force incidents involving Pine County Sheriff's Deputies on Tuesday.

The first happened just before 2 p.m. in Pine City.

The BCA reports that deputies were attempting to apprehend a man wanted on a felony warrant. During the incident, deputies fired their service weapons, striking and injuring the subject.

Medical treatment was provided at the scene. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment where he is in critical condition.

The second use of force incident happened around 4 p.m. on northbound Interstate 35 between mile markers 187 and 188, south of Sandstone.

The State Patrol was reportedly pursuing a vehicle for speeding when it went off the road and into a ditch.

The BCA says that the driver was the lone occupant in the vehicle. He reportedly did not exit the vehicle when commanded to. At one point during the altercation, a Pine County Deputy fired less-than-lethal rounds, which broke vehicle windows, then deployed a K-9.

The driver still did not respond to commands.

When law enforcement approached the vehicle, they reportedly saw the driver dead inside the vehicle with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. A handgun was recovered from inside.

Neither the State Patrol nor the Pine County Sheriff's Deputies on scene reportedly fired their service weapons.

Body cameras were worn during both incidents.

We will update this story as more information is released.
