Pine County 4-H member named 2025-26 Minnesota 4-H Agriculture Ambassador
Pine County 4-H member Owen Johnson has been selected as a 2025-2026 Minnesota 4-H Agriculture Ambassador. Johnson, a 12th-grader from Hinckley, has participated in 4-H for eight years. According to a news release from extension educator Sarah Odendahl, Johnson will represent Pine County as one of 27 youth leaders from across the state chosen for the role. He started serving as an agriculture ambassador on Oct. 1, and will continue through September of 2026. The release state

East Central's Comeback Falls Short Against Ely
East Central hosted Ely for their homecoming game on Friday night. Ely came in 1-5 and East Central was 0-6 and looking for their first victory of the season.
The two teams traded blows in the first quarter. There were five touchdowns between the two teams, including back-to-back kickoff returns by both teams. The score at the end of the opening quarter was 24-16.

Rush City Takes Down Rangers on Homecoming
Rush City hosted Crosby-Ironton on Friday night.
The Tigers came in off a two game losing streak in which they had trouble hanging onto the ball. But it was time to turn the page and move forward. While homecoming is a busy week, the Tigers were able to keep their focus on the things they needed to fix and improve on.

71-year-old Shafer man dies after motorcycle collision with deer
A 71-year-old Shafer man died in the early hours of Sunday after his motorcycle struck a deer in Chisago County. According to the state patrol crash report, the motorcycle and deer collided near the intersection of Highway 95 and Pleasant Valley Road in Franconia Township around 12:45 a.m. The driver was identified as Shafer resident Bruce Filmore, who died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.
