Two dead, three injured after Chisago County crash involving underage driver

Two teenagers have died and three others were injured in a crash involving an underage driver in Chisago County in the early hours of Saturday morning.


According to a news release from the Lakes Area Police Department, Chisago County dispatch was notified of a crash in the area of Stacy Trail and Ivywood Trail in Chisago City just before 2 a.m.


Responding authorities located a two-vehicle, head-on collision near the intersection.


A Toyota Camry was being driven by a 14-year-old male, with two 15-year-old male passengers.


One of the passengers died from his injuries at the scene. The other two vehicle occupants were transported to Regions Hospital after sustaining serious injuries.


The other vehicle, a Toyota 4-Runner, was driven by a 17-year-old male, with an 18-year-old male passenger.


The driver was air-lifted to Regions Hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries, and later died at the hospital.


The passenger was transported by ambulance to HCMC.


According to the release, alcohol was located at the scene and may have been a factor in the crash.


The Minnesota State Patrol will conduct an accident reconstruction, and the crash remains under investigation by the Lakes Area Police Department.
